London Buddhist Centre approached Potter & Holmes in December 2007 to assist in the implementation of a £1 million refurbishment and extension to their site in Bethnal Green.
Planning consent and building regulation approval and the majority of the design development had been achieved by the architects Constructive Individuals. Potter & Holmes entered a partnering arrangement with them to provide detailed design and specification advice as well as a contract administration service for the project. It consisted of 8 phases of work in an occupied listed building and significantly added, among other things, a third shrine room as well as an additional conversion of the upper floors to provide a community for 10 residents. A new reception area and bookshop include purpose made joinery designed by Potter & Holmes and completes the entrance courtyard with a new atrium.
