Chapter 1, Waterloo

This housing association set up a limited architecture competition for their headquarters building and student hostel in Waterloo Exton Street. Potter & Holmes were successful in winning this project in March 2008 and submitted a planning application in August that year. A scheme design was then submitted to the local authority at the end of 2008.

The project consists of converting the majority of the existing student rooms into en suite accommodation as well as the addition of a floor and the introduction of a new accommodation block within the courtyard of the building. With certain demolitions the whole building complex is rationalised to provide a new headquarters office suite for the 22 staff of the organisation as well as new conference areas and refurbished communal spaces for the students.

A planning application was submitted in summer 2009 and won at appeal in December 2009.
