Ethos

Our 3 main targets are:
Design for low maintenance
Design for adaptability
Design to protect and conserve the environment
Design that is sustainable into the future

Potter + Holmes have developed a checklist of energy saving measures which we strive to follow on all our projects. There are simple principles of design that can significantly affect the carbon footprint of a building with little financial effect.

Comparatively simple measures with a low cost attached may be a sensible use of budget and reap financial benefits for years to come

Artificial cooling should not be necessary if appropriate measures are put in place to prevent solar gain and provide natural cross ventilation during the summer months

At many sites, we are able to salvage finely crafted buildings from the past with many design features

Our careful analysis of the brief and embedded energy employed may be deciding factors in the retention of a building
