This fit out spans two floors of a robust Victorian warehouse in Battersea. Farr Vintners are fine wine merchants with an international reputation. Their requirement was for a generous tasting area at ground level for their clients, who are wine dealers and collectors. The centrepiece of the tasting area is an extensive metal sculpture by Rob Olins which incorporates the white tables needed for viewing the wine, spittoons and lit metal fabric sails; this modern and industrial installation is set in contrast to the earthy colours and natural timber floor finish of the host building.
On the upper floor, the buying, selling, transport and administration of the business are housed – about 25 custom designed workstations in a ‘dealing room’ environment. The ‘Plywave’ ceiling conceals the air conditioning plant made necessary by the sealed environment due to the adjacent multilevel railway viaducts servicing Victoria and Waterloo.
