Crown and Anchor
The Crown and Anchor pub in Clapham Old Town closed over five years as its customers moved to the bright lights of Clapham High Street.
The building is located in a conservation area and after lengthy negotiations with the local council, a planning consent for the conversion and extension of the building as a house was granted.
A full basement has been excavated to the full footprint of the site to create the largest volume of the house. This is lit by a sunken garden light well and a roof-light to the street end of the room. The stairwell and glass stair is also used to bring light down from the roof down the full height of the house to the basement. The discrete elevations to the streets conceal dramatic interior spaces and volumes with natural light penetrating between floors.
The first floor is a single master bedroom suite with two further bedrooms designed into the roof at second floor level.
