Broadreach

The design for Broadreach has a traditional centre ridge "Cotswold" style external envelope, as demanded by the local planning authority.

The design incorporates a focal Cathedral like space around the principal staircase, with landings and bridges rising to the apex of the roof in the tradition of mediaeval hall houses; this starts at hearth level in the living room, and continues right up to the top of the house.

This house is clad in Natural Cotswold Stone and comprises of a timber frame structure. Warmcell recycled newspaper insulation and organic waxes and paints were used throughout.

The house is physically adaptable as only three lines of internal walls are load bearing, allowing for future replanning and rearrangement of the internal layout.

The result of this design and material choice is a spacious, contemporary 6 bedroom family home, responsive to current thinking on sustainability and the environment, whilst remaining adaptable to the changing needs of family life.
